2019 Travel Trends We've Got Our Eye On

It’s no question that we love traveling. Whether for work or leisure, the CIIC team is happiest on the go. The question now is how exactly we’ll be traveling in the new year, because it’s the emerging developments that take a trip from ordinary to out-of-this-world. Here’s a look at the travel trends we’re most excited for in 2019.

Keep It Green

Sustainable travel is already commonplace with the straw-free movement gaining hold in destinations like Quintana Roo, Mexico; Malibu and Miami Beach, where straws are banned. But beyond plastic, eco-conscious travelers are going one step further in 2019, booking zero-waste getaways in an effort to curb their carbon footprint. Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas in Costa Rica is a stellar example vowing to be 100% solar-powered by early 2019.

Under the Radar

Overtourism made headlines this year as longtime vacation favorites like Barcelona, Santorini and Thailand’s Ko Phi Phi set restrictions against overcrowding, which is why we’re jetting to the lesser-known in 2019. By visiting hidden gems outside the well-trodden tourist magnets, travelers can escape the crowds and live like locals. The quiet Oaxacan surf town of Puerto Escondido should be the perfect choice.

Ladies’ Choice

With our female founder and an all-female crew, CIIC proudly mastered solo female travel long ago. Now the rest of the world is catching on, too, as female travelers look to experience their own Eat, Pray, Love. With tour providers specializing in women-only travel, hotels accommodating women-only trips and destinations taking precautions for female travelers, 2019 is for the girls. Our hotel of choice? The adult-only Hacienda section in Hilton Puerto Vallarta.

Do It for the ‘Gram

Scoping out the perfect Insta-worthy spots for your feed is about to get easier. Hotels and cities are catching on to the wave of social-media-driven travel by incorporating kitschy features like art installations, colorful décor, brand pop-ups and influencer collaborations that will attract digitally native millennials and Gen Z travelers with photogenic trips on their mind. Hotel El Ganzo in Los Cabos even launched an Influencer Package this year for “the leader of the pack.”

Gone are the days of guiltily leaving pets at home while the rest of the family enjoys a getaway. Pet-friendly hotels like our very own Aliz Times Square are on the rise, accommodating man’s best friend with specialized services and room features.
